The Brilliant Rebellion is operated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit. That means when we collect donations, they are used specifically for activities that help to grow the community and its impact rather than distributing profits to its owners. When donations are received, they are set aside for four purposes:
Charitable initiatives
Periodically throughout each year, we will announce a charitable drive. These will be both local as well as national, and donations play the largest role in helping us bring our impact into marginalized communities, families in need, and more.
Hosting community events
Although we charge additional fees for our events, our donations help offset the cost of venues, food, and other event fees to keep admission as affordable as possible, if not free.
Compensating the Rebel Crew
It takes a lot of time and effort to keep the community engaged online, which is why we pay Crew members to keep in touch, check in, schedule events, design promotional materials, and more. Compensation levels are strictly regulated by the state to avoid overpaying any given individual.
Infrastructure
The online platform our community is hosted on, this website, and other digital and physical infrastructure needs for the community are paid for through your donations. This is what "keeps the lights on," as they say!
